Melody as Truth
Melody as Truth approached me and co-director Will Galperin about doing a music video for an upcoming release. We had been working on a previous concept about growth and decay and decided that it would be a perfect fit for the song. The video was done in Houdini and makes heavy use of a differential growth method first developed by Johan Gardfeldt. The forms that grow out of the sculpted figures are generated using a mathematical model of the way that corals, algae, and other living organisims grow. Each part of the surface evolves according to a simple set of rules modeling the effects of light and nutrition and the final form emerges as a result of this process.
